FC Nordsjælland have exercised their option to buy Egyptian winger Ibrahim Adel from Al Jazira, turning his loan into a permanent transfer and signing him until the summer of 2029.

Adel joined the Danish club in February on a loan deal from the Abu Dhabi side. The agreement included a purchase option, which Nordsjælland have now activated after his first months in Farum.

The 25-year-old has played 10 matches for Nordsjælland, scoring two goals and providing one assist.

Nordsjælland football director Alexander Riget said the club had followed Ibrahim Adel for several years. He said the loan gave both sides time to assess the move, and that the club were satisfied enough to complete a permanent deal.

Riget also said Adel has adapted well on and off the pitch. He added that the winger fits the club’s playing style and could become an important Superliga player.

Adel said he has felt at home at Nordsjælland since his arrival. He said he wants to help the club qualify for Europe next season and compete for a title in the coming years.

The Egypt international has 22 caps and three goals for the national team. He last played for Egypt against Saudi Arabia in March.

Adel moved to Al Jazira in the summer of 2025 after a fruitful spell with Pyramids FC. In his last season in Cairo, he recorded 14 goals and 12 assists in 32 matches and helped Pyramids win the CAF Champions League against Mamelodi Sundowns.

Hamza Abdelkarim Says He Is Adapting in Barcelona

Hamza Abdelkarim said he is settling well at La Masia and developing physically, mentally, and tactically in the youth setup at Barcelona.

Egyptian forward Hamza Abdelkarim said he is adapting well at La Masia and believes his time with Barcelona is helping him improve physically, mentally, and tactically.

Speaking in an interview with beIN Sports, he said he benefits from every training session and every match. Hamza Abdelkarim added that each minute in Barcelona gives him a chance to develop.

The young forward said scoring goals remains important, but it does not define his full development. He said he must improve other parts of his game to become a more complete player.

The youngster also pointed to Barcelona’s collective style. Abdelkarim said the team must play as one unit, describing football at the club as highly collective. He added that he is gradually adapting to the team’s playing model.

Notably, he said Barcelona’s staff understand his strengths and work with him to sharpen them. Abdelkarim added that his teammates help him show those qualities during matches.

His comments came after he scored in Barcelona youth’s 2-0 win over Tenerife. He played 81 minutes in the match.

Barcelona signed Abdelkarim from Al Ahly on loan until June 30, 2026. The agreement includes a purchase option at the end of the season.

'Out of shape' Lukaku named in Belgium World Cup squad

Brussels, Belgium: Belgium coach Rudi Garcia named Romelu Lukaku in his World Cup squad on Friday despite saying Belgium's all-time record goalscorer was "out of shape".

Lukaku, who has scored 89 goals in 124 international appearances, has struggled for form and fitness at Serie A club Napoli this season.

The 33-year-old former Inter Milan and Chelsea forward has only played 69 minutes of first-team football in 2026 and is currently sidelined by a hip injury.

"Romelu has recovered, but he's out of shape, and I'm not sure he'll be able to start the matches. But he's our best striker, Belgium's all-time leading scorer," Frenchman Garcia told reporters.

"We have five weeks to get him back to full fitness so that little by little he can help the team."

Lille forward Matias Fernandez-Pardo was given a maiden call-up after opting to switch nationality, having previously played for Spain's Under-21s.

Lois Openda, who has played 33 times for Belgium, is a notable absentee after scoring just once in 24 Serie A appearances this season on loan at Juventus from RB Leipzig.

There are few other surprises in Garcia's 26-man squad, with Kevin De Bruyne, Thibaut Courtois and Jeremy Doku all included.

Belgium kick off their World Cup campaign against Egypt in Seattle on June 15, before taking on Iran and New Zealand in Group G in Los Angeles and Vancouver respectively.

The Red Devils crashed out of the 2022 World Cup in the group stage, plagued by infighting as the 'golden generation' failed miserably in their final bid for a major title.

Kohli senses end after roaring back to form with IPL century

New Delhi: Virat Kohli said his love of cricket keeps him going but admitted his career "is going to finish one day" after ending a mini slump in form with a match-winning IPL century.

Regarded as one of the most accomplished batsmen of his generation, the 37-year-old Kohli is a hero to hundreds of millions of Indian fans.

"Cricket is absolutely something that I truly love," he said. "I just give my heart and soul out there on the field, whether I'm fielding or batting, because it's going to finish one day."

Kohli bounced back from two consecutive ducks to hit an unbeaten 105 and lead defending champions Royal Challengers Bengaluru to a crucial win on Wednesday.

He scored his ninth hundred in the Indian Premier League -- but first this season -- as Bengaluru chased down 193 with five balls to spare against Kolkata Knight Riders.

Kohli also became the fastest player to 14,000 runs in T20 cricket.

He achieved the feat in 409 innings, bettering Chris Gayle's 423.

Kohli, who has retired from Tests and T20 internationals, guided Bengaluru to their maiden title on the 18th attempt last year.

"I just love batting, even after all this. That is my core feeling," Kohli said on Wednesday after being named player of the match.

"What an honour to be playing at this level, what an honour to be competing with the very best in the world still," he added.

"This is all I've done, all my life."

Kohli is third on the batting charts in this IPL season with 484 runs including three fifties and one ton, at an average of 53.77 in 12 matches.

'Joy still there'

Kohli's 60-ball knock was laced with 11 fours and three sixes, as he equalled Jos Buttler's record of three IPL centuries in successful chases.

Called "King Kohli" for his prolific run-scoring, the opener got off the mark with a single in the first over of the chase, punching the air in mock celebration after his successive ducks.

He raised his fifty in 32 balls, and then his first hundred of the season.

"I want to make the most of every day that I'm on the field, and just enjoy myself, and have a lot of fun," he said.

Kohli said he enjoys being tested.

"I look forward to a pressure situation, look forward to scenarios where I'm feeling a bit of heat," he said.

"Then I challenge myself to say, 'you know what, just go for it'", he added.

"And, when you cross the line, it makes you a better player. I just love hitting the ball in the middle of the bat. And that joy is still there."

The number India 18 jersey worn by Kohli is by far the most popular piece of merchandise worn around grounds across the country.

He ended his T20 career with a match-winning innings in the 2024 World Cup final victory in Barbados.

Sinner reaches Italian Open semis, breaks Masters 1000 winning streak record

Rome, Italy: Jannik Sinner reached the semi-finals of the Italian Open on Thursday after seeing off Andrey Rublev and establishing a new record of consecutive wins in Masters 1000 tournaments.

Another straight-sets victory, this time 6-2, 6-4 over Rublev, moved Sinner up to 32 straight wins in the ATP's top-ranked events, one more than the previous record established by Novak Djokovic in 2011.

Rublev was Sinner's first seeded opponent at this year's tournament in Rome and the world number one made short work of his task in front of a delighted centre court.

In the last four Sinner is likely to face Daniil Medvedev, winner of the 2023 title at the Foro Italico, with the seventh seed taking on lucky loser Martin Landaluce in the first match of the evening session.
