Trump admits lobbying FIFA over Balogun suspension

Donald Trump has admitted making three calls to FIFA to lobby for the suspension of England striker Folarin Balogun to be reversed, allowing him to play in the World Cup last-16 match against Belgium.

The Belgian FA and much of the football world has been "astonished" by FIFA's decision to overturn Balogun's suspension following Trump's intervention. The former US president confirmed he contacted FIFA starting from Wednesday to ensure the change was made, which means Balogun is now eligible for England's crucial last-16 encounter.

Meanwhile, England has secured their place in the quarter-finals where they will face Norway, with Jordan Henderson ruled out of the tournament.
