Orioles Call Up Gibson to Start vs. Yankees

The Baltimore Orioles are activating top pitching prospect Trey Gibson to start against the New York Yankees on Sunday, as confirmed by manager Craig Albernaz.

The 23-year-old right-hander, ranked Baltimore's No. 3 prospect by MLB.com and Baseball America, was called up from Triple-A Norfolk to join the Orioles' taxi squad. Gibson will be opposed by Max Fried as he makes his major league debut amid a pitching crisis for Baltimore.

Gibson, a 6-foot-5 righty who signed as an undrafted free agent in 2023, has a 4.01 ERA in six Triple-A starts this season with 25 strikeouts in 24 2/3 innings. His promotion comes as Trevor Rogers, Dean Kremer and Zach Eflin are among 12 players on the injured list for the Orioles, who enter Saturday with a 15-17 record, six games out of first place in the AL East. xsportfeed.life
