Quarterback Fernando Mendoza has been named the 2025-2026 Big Ten Jesse Owens Male Athlete of the Year, the conference announced Wednesday.

Former Indiana quarterback Fernando Mendoza earned one final collegiate accolade Wednesday, being named the 2025-2026 Big Ten Jesse Owens Male Athlete of the Year. Mendoza, who won both the CFP national championship and Heisman Trophy last season with the Hoosiers, becomes the sixth Indiana student-athlete to receive this honor.

The NFL No. 1 overall draft pick, Mendoza joined an exclusive club as only the fourth player in the common draft era to win the Heisman, national championship, and go No. 1 overall in the same season.
