Italy get ski cross gold and silver, US successive mixed aerials gold

Host nation Italy grabbed gold and silver in ski cross on the final day of Olympic freestyle skiing on Saturday while the United States clinched back-to-back aerials mixed team titles.

Former world champion Simone Deromedis got ski cross gold and Federico Tomasoni silver for Italy's first ever medals which they celebrated wildly.

Switzerland's Alex Fiva added bronze zo his silver from 2022.

Compatriot Ryan Regaz, the 2022 gold medallist missed the big final as he was disqualified for obstructing German skier Tim Hronek who lost his chance of making the final in the incident and eventually finished sixth.

Earlier, Chris Lillis, who was also part of the 2022 team, clinched the aerials for the US team to get the gold together with Kaila Kuhn and Connor Curren with a final tally of 325.35 points.

Switzerland were distant silver medallists with 296.91. China, boasting individual event winners Xu Mengtao and Wang Xindi, took the bronze with 279.68.

The mixed team consists of two men and one woman. The top four teams from seven in the first round contested the final round, with Australia missing the medals in fourth.

The remaining freestyle medal event is the women's halfpipe later on Saturday.
