The Toronto Blue Jays will run out an experienced lineup as they welcome the New York Mets to Dunedin, Fla., on Monday (1 p.m. ET / 10 a.m. PT on Sportsnet and Sportsnet+).
Vladimir Guerrero Jr. and Kazuma Okamoto will be back at the infield corners after not playing in Toronto’s loss to the Boston Red Sox on Sunday. They will be joined on the dirt by Andrés Giménez, Ernie Clement and Alejandro Kirk as the Blue Jays look to get their World Baseball Classic-bound players as many spring training reps as possible before departing for the tournament.
Addison Barger, Nathan Lukes and Davis Schneider will make up Toronto’s outfield on Monday, with Daulton Varsho serving as the designated hitter.
It’s a similar lineup to the one the Blue Jays used in their spring-training opener on Saturday against the Philadelphia Phillies.
On the other side of the field, the Mets are not sending former Blue Jays shortstop Bo Bichette to Dunedin for the contest. Bichette signed with New York this past off-season after spending the first seven years of his big-league career in Toronto.
The Mets and Blue Jays face off just once more in spring training, with a matchup scheduled for March 15 in Port St. Lucie, Fla., before their Canada Day weekend regular-season series.
While New York isn’t sending many established major-leaguers for Monday’s game, veteran right-hander Clay Holmes will get the start on the mound. Canadian Jared Young will start at first base after homering on Sunday in his build-up for the WBC.
José Berríos, meanwhile, will make his first appearance of spring training for the Blue Jays.
The 31-year-old ended 2025 on the injured list after posting a 4.17 ERA over 166 innings and 31 appearances. He was unable to return for Toronto’s post-season run and left the team during the World Series — something he called a “bad decision” upon his arrival at camp this spring.
