The tight end position is one constantly in evolution over the years.
Some players in the position group are better are blocking. Others are more hybrid receivers. For some, though, they've perfected the position by doing both roles.
At the high school level, an elite tight end could be the difference in whether an offense succeeds or fails. This recruiting cycle has some of the deepest talent the position group has seen in some time.
USA TODAY High School Sports kicked off spring scouting with a focus on the top quarterbacks, running backs and wide receivers. Here's a look at the top 10 tight ends in the 2027 class.
1. Ahmad Hudson
School: Ruston (LA)
Height: 6-6.5
Weight: 239
Commitment Status: Uncommitted
Summary: A two-sport standout, Hudson holds several Power Four offers in both basketball and football. A Navy All-American Bowl participant, he caught six passes for 169 yards and a touchdown in the Bearcats' championship loss.
2. Jaxon Dolar
School: East Lincoln (Denver, NC)
Height: 6-5
Weight: 222
Commitment Status: Uncommitted
Summary: Not many tight ends can claim that they put up numbers like Dolar in 2025. Last yea,r he totaled 54 receptions for 1,190 yards and 20 touchdowns. Defensively, he accounted for 38 tackles, 13 tackles for loss, and five sacks.
3. Brock Williams
School: Libertyville (IL)
Height: 6-5
Weight: 210
Commitment Status: Uncommitted
Summary: A massive receiving target, not many tight ends in the 2027 class flash as high an upside as Williams. Last year, he led Libertyville in receiving with 44 receptions for 596 yards and 11 touchdowns.
4. Seneca Driver
School: Boyle County (Danville, KY)
Height: 6-6
Weight: 234
Commitment Status: Uncommitted
Summary: Keeping Driver in the Blue Grass State appears to be a must for new Kentucky head coach Will Stein. It won't be easy, though, as he holds offers from nearly every other Power Four program in the country, including the likes of Indiana, Notre Dame, Ohio State, Ole Miss, and Tennessee.
5. Jack Brown
School: Francis Howell Central (St. Charles, MO)
Height: 6-5
Weight: 215
Commitment Status: Uncommitted
Summary: Like Kentucky and Driver, keeping Brown in his home state appears to be a must for Eli Drinkwitz and the Missouri Tigers. He's visited the school numerous times, with the most recent coming on January 31.
6. Brooks Bakko
School: Kindred (ND)
Height: 6-4
Weight: 205
Commitment Status: Uncommitted
Summary: No player in North Dakota was better than Bakko in 2025. He was the state's Gatorade Player of the year, leading Kindred to a 10-1 record and catching 41 passes for 757 yards and a school record 12 touchdowns. He stood out defensively as well, recording 70 tackles and seven interceptions.
7. Rahzario Edwards
School: Grant Union (Sacramento, CA)
Height: 6-6
Weight: 210
Commitment Status: Uncommitted
Summary: Edwards did not start on the football field, but he quickly made a name for himself on the gridiron over the last two years. Last season, he was Grant Union's second-leading receiver with 23 receptions for 634 yards and five touchdowns in nine games.
8. Korz Loken
School: Iola-Scandinavia (Iola, WI)
Height: 6-5
Weight: 220
Commitment Status: Wisconsin
Summary: A broken arm limited Loken to just one game in 2025. However, he excelled on both sides of the ball during his sophomore season, catching 28 passes for 425 yards and nine touchdowns to go along with 41 tackles defensively.
9. Cooper Terwilliger
School: T.F. Riggs (Pierre, SD)
Height: 6-5
Weight: 225
Commitment Status: Uncommitted
Summary: A big tight end who fares well both blocking and receiving, Terwilliger's list of offers is up to 25 from major Power Four programs. Some standouts include Alabama, Georgia, Michigan, Notre Dame, Penn State and Tennessee.
10. Landon Blum
School: Woodbine (Woodbine, IA)
Height: 6-4
Weight: 200
Commitment Status: Uncommitted
Summary: Blum is in a unique situation as the only player on this list who plays eight-man football. Even with that, major programs like Miami, Ole Miss, and Penn State have not strayed away from extending him an offer.
