Cubs Edge Padres 6-5, Kelly Homers and Drives In Two

The Chicago Cubs defeated the San Diego Padres 6-5 at Sloan Park, with catcher Carson Kelly delivering a homer and two RBIs. Shōta Imanaga made his first spring start, allowing three hits and striking out once.

The Cubs took a 1-0 lead in the first and extended it to 3-0 by the second inning, thanks to timely hits from Michael Busch, B.J. Murray, Justin Dean and a hit‑by‑pitch to Scott Kingery. Jacob Webb’s fourth‑inning walk‑off allowed the Padres to close the gap to 3-2, but the Cubs held on for a 6-5 victory.

Carson Kelly’s solo homer in the fifth gave the Cubs a 4-2 cushion, and he added two RBIs as the team rallied for four more runs. Shōta Imanaga, in his first start of the season, allowed three hits, one walk and struck out once, showing improved velocity but still dealing with lingering hamstring issues.
