Phillies' Alvarado Won't Play in WBC Due to Insurance

Philadelphia Phillies left-hander José Alvarado announced on Instagram that insurance complications will prevent him from playing for Venezuela in the World Baseball Classic.

Alvarado expressed deep sadness in a post, stating the required insurance for participation was not approved. He noted this is beyond his control and he had hoped to wear his country's jersey for a third consecutive time.

He joins other stars like Francisco Lindor and Carlos Correa, who were also left off rosters due to insurance issues. The tournament runs from March 5-17 in various locations including Miami.
