Lindsey Vonn has provided another update following her brutal crash at the 2026 Winter Olympics.
Von shared on X on Friday that her last surgery went well, but that “the pain has been hard to manage.” She also posted an x-ray image of her leg, saying, “I’m bionic for real now.”
The 41-year-old crashed 13 seconds into her run during an alpine ski women’s downhill race at the Milan Cortina Games and was airlifted off the course by helicopter. She announced afterward that she had suffered a “complex tibia fracture that is currently stable but will require multiple surgeries to fix properly.”
Her latest surgery marked the fifth she has undergone as a result of the injury, with four of them done in Italy.
Before the crash, Vonn was competing with a torn ACL in her left knee, sustained just nine days before, as well as a partial titanium replacement in her right knee.
“Made it through surgery … it took a bit more than 6 hours to complete,” wrote Vonn in a another post shared to Instagram on Friday. “As you can see, it required a lot of plates and screws to put back together, but Dr. Hackett did an incredible job.
“With the extent of the trauma, I’ve been struggling a bit post-op and have not yet been able to be discharged from the hospital just yet … almost there. Baby steps.
“Will explain the injury and what it all means soon.”
