After firing Jonathan Gannon and hiring Mike LaFleur as head coach, the Arizona Cardinals‘ offense will have a new look in 2026. Though, after finishing 23rd in scoring, change in this case is likely a good thing.
One particular area where Arizona struggled immensely was with a rushing attack that finished with the second-fewest yards. Yet, after James Conner, Zonavan Knight, and Trey Benson suffered season-ending injuries, their ground game didn’t stand much of a chance.
With the Cardinals entering a new regime, perhaps it’s time to start fresh with a new running back too.
Recently, ESPN’s Rich Cimini suggested that the Cardinals could be a suitor for one of the top free agent running backs available, Breece Hall from the Jets.
“He’ll (Breece Hall) be only 25, one of the reasons why he would be one of the most coveted free agents. The Arizona Cardinals, coached by former Jets offensive coordinator Mike LaFleur, could be a potential suitor.”

Conner is under contract for 2026, but there’s a chance the Cardinals move on from the 30-year-old after he was limited to just three games last season. Conner has a $9.6 million cap hit for next season, but he’s also a two-time Pro Bowler.
Still, Hall, who also excels as a pass-catcher, is six years younger, and he’s a more versatile fit for coach LaFleur’s offense. If the price is right, Arizona, which is projected to have nearly $33 million in cap space, could use a chunk of it on Hall.
