Green Bay Packers general manager Brian Gutekunst spent around 12 minutes answering questions from the assembled local Green Bay media before his scheduled press conference at the NFL Scouting Combine on Tuesday.
During the session, Gutekunst touched on Rich Bisaccia's departure, some positional needs on the roster and the play of Rashan Gary.
Some of the highlights from Gutekunst on Tuesday's pre-presser:
-- On Rich Bisaccia's departure: "Losing him is tough just because of what he brought to our football team. I think there were other opportunities he wanted to pursue. He's coached a long time in the national Football League, and as you know, it can be a grind. He had some other opportunities that he was looking at. Really good coach, and wherever he winds up, that place will be better for it." Bisaccia stepped down as special teams coordinator on Feb. 17, and the Packers have not yet hired a replacement. Gutekunst said the team has the ability to be patient while going through the hiring process, and Bisaccia's decision came as a surprise.
-- On positional needs this offseason: "Throughout (the roster), quite frankly. Certainly, in the secondary, we need to add some competition. Inside linebacker. Throughout the offense. To me, it's more about our entire football team. How we are going to play, our new defensive coordinator, so much is undetermined right now. The more well-rounded football players you can get, the better you'll be." Gutekunst was vague but specifically pointed to the secondary (where there is an obvious need at corner) and inside linebacker (where Quay Walker is going to be a free agent and only three players are under contract).
-- On Rashan Gary, who didn't have a sack over the final 10 games of 2025: "Sometimes, there is an ebb and flow with production with sacks. He was impactful towards the second half of the season. Maybe not as much as the first, but he was impactful. Rashan has all the talent in the world. And he's produced at a high level for us since he's been here. We would expect that next year as well." Gary has a $28 million cap number for 2026, but it's possible the Packers will restructure his deal to lower his number and keep him for another season. Gary produced 7.5 sacks in the first eight weeks but zero the rest of the way.
Gutekunst also talked the impacts of restructuring contracts, the depth of the offensive line class in the draft, playing well during international games, getting better playing situational football in big moments, trading up in the draft and the impact of the NFL Scouting Combine on the scouting process.
