It was a tumultuous 2025 for Arizona Cardinals QB Kyler Murray. After finishing as a top-10 fantasy football quarterback a season ago, Murray missed almost all of this past season due to injury before being benched in favor of Jacoby Brissett late in the campaign. As a result, a divorce is expected to happen between Arizona and Murray, ideally before NFL free agency begins on March 9.
With Murray likely headed to the open market, Matt Harmon and Justin Boone were joined by Yahoo senior NFL reporter Jori Epstein to discuss what the best landing spot might be for Murray if he’s cut loose.
The trio starts out by discussing Murray as a player and what he brings to the table. Epstein talked to a top personnel executive who described Murray as “the quarterback you don't wanna have, but you also don't wanna face." Much of that is because of Murray’s dual-threat ability.
Murray, 28, finished with 962 passing yards, six touchdowns and three interceptions in just five starts last season. He also added 173 rushing yards and one score. But Boone points out that despite playing in those five games, Murray wasn’t fantasy relevant in any contest, which was surprising. We’ve seen him finish as a top QB in fantasy and perhaps a change of scenery will spark a resurgence.
But where might be the best landing spot for Murray?
Immediately, the group goes right to Minnesota and head coach Kevin O’Connell, who is viewed as a QB guru. He wasn’t able to figure things out with rookie J.J. McCarthy last season, but worked wonders prior to that with Sam Darnold, now a Super Bowl champion.
Harmon does think the Vikings’ ecosystem is a bit overrated after what happened with McCarthy this past season. Sure, they have an all-world wideout in Justin Jefferson, but behind him, there are plenty of question marks. The crew views Jordan Addison as good, but not great — just outside of the tier of receivers including Tee Higgins, Devonta Smith and Jaylen Waddle.
But Minnesota still is an appealing destination for a veteran QB, such as Murray, who is 38-48-1 over seven seasons in the NFL. He was the AP Offensive Rookie of the Year back in 2019, throwing for 3,722 yards with 20 TDs and 12 INTs while rushing for 544 yards and four TDs.
Boone has Murray as the QB22 in his early QB fantasy football rankings for 2026. That could change depending on where Murray lands (or if he stays in Arizona).
