Random Ramsdom: Former Chiefs CB is an option

Jaylen Watson has been with the Kansas City Chiefs the last four season, and is likely a pending free agent in this upcoming free agency cycle. Should the Los Angeles Rams add Watson to their roster if they can?

I feel like it’s a possibility because L.A.‘s secondary cleary could be in need of an upgrade, so in theory, any pending free agent could be worth a look by Les Snead and the Rams.

Which direction will the Rams go? I do not know, but if I were a betting man, I’d bet they add at least one defensiveback via free agency and then add another one or two in the draft.

Rams Predicted to Address Critical Need With Super Bowl Champion (heavy.com)

“Watson is a talented corner with the size (6-2, 197 pounds) to press and the awareness to play zone coverage. He had a phenomenal coverage DVOA in six games in 2024, then was above average (40th out of 98 qualifying) in a full season in 2025.”

Watson is coming off a four-year, $3.7 million contract with the Chiefs, where he won two Super Bowls. He finished 2025 with a career-high 41 total tackles and 2.0 sacks in 15 starts.“

“The Los Angeles Rams need to give serious consideration to upgrading their secondary. But the NFL free agency market can be an optical illusion. What that means is that veteran players who performed well with a former team may not find similar success in LA.

With the team facing 2026 without speedy wide receivers Tutu Atwell and perhaps Xavier Smith, the team may be tempted to offer a contract to former Miami Dolphins fleet-footed wide receiver Tyreek Hill.“

Rams combine meeting tracker: Every draft prospect LA has met with (ramswire)

“The 2026 NFL Scouting Combine is taking place in Indianapolis this week, where the majority of the top prospects in the draft are working out for teams and meeting with coaches, scouts and GMs. The Los Angeles Rams don’t have Sean McVay or Les Snead in Indy, which has become their regular approach every year, but representatives from the team are in attendance meeting with prospects.“

Rams, Cowboys spark top-10 chaos in 2026 NFL Mock Draft (nflmocks)

“The Browns continue to add draft capital with smart trades.  In selecting Jordyn Tyson at No. 13, via a trade with the Rams, the Browns get a player they could’ve possibly taken at No. 6.  In Tyson, they get that big outside receiver who has a ceiling to become the team’s No. 1 receiver…as long as he’s healthy.”
