‘We’re not doing so badly at all’ — BVB’s Niko Kovač says club is making progress in chase of Bayern Munich

Former Bayern Munich head coach and current Borussia Dortmund manager Niko Kovač is someone who often likes to point out the financial disparity and operational methods between BVB and the Bavarians.

After his team absorbed a painful 3-2 loss in the Bundesliga on Saturday, Kovač, again, talked about those differences.

“I’m disappointed about the result but pleased with the effort. We need to take the progress into account. Last year, we were 25 points (behind Bayern). This year, it’s 11. Bayern can buy top players for €70m or €80m. We sign players with development potential with whom we’re largely satisfied. we’re not doing so badly at all,” Kovač said (as captured by @iMiaSanMia).

It is true, Borussia Dortmund has shown improvements this season, but this week — with a Champions League elimination at the hands of Atalanta and a loss to Bayern Munich in Der Klassiker — is probably not going to make BVB fans feel better.
