The Oklahoma Sooners had a fantastic week at the NFL scouting combine in Indianapolis. The Sooners stood out on the draft stage, and a pair of Oklahoma defenders have seen their stock rise during the draft process. In Jordan Reid's latest mock draft for ESPN, two Oklahoma Sooners are projected to go in the first two rounds.
Reid mocked R Mason Thomas to the Carolina Panthers at No. 51, citing Thomas' ability to turn into a stand-up edge rusher in their 3-4 defense. Thomas was one of the best pass rushers in college football the last couple of years, showing off an ability to win with power and speed off the edge. He has the strength to set the edge in the run game and the speed to chase the play from the backside as well. Thomas is going to be a good fit wherever he gets drafted, and he has the athletic profile to play in a variety of defenses.
Defensive tackle Gracen Halton was also projected to land in the second round. The Sooners' defensive tackle lands with Houston in this mock draft at No. 59. Halton has the size and strength to hold up at the point of attack. He also brings a great first step, quickness, and speed to be a disruptive pass rusher up the middle.
Oklahoma hasn't had two players selected in the first two rounds of the draft since 2023, when Anton Harrison went in the first round to the Jacksonville Jaguars and Marvin Mims went No. 63 overall in the second round to the Denver Broncos.
Halton and Thomas were both late flips in Brent Venables first recruiting class in 2022. They didn't play much in their first couple of seasons with Oklahoma, but both players experienced breakout years in 2024 and then built off of them in 2025 to land in a position to be taken in the premium rounds of the NFL draft in 2026.
