Cunningham: Bears deserve draft picks for my hiring

Former Bears executive Ian Cunningham believes Chicago should receive draft compensation under the NFL's Rooney Rule for his hiring as Falcons general manager.

The NFL's Rooney Rule typically provides teams with two third-round picks when minority executives are hired as GMs or head coaches by other clubs. However, the Bears are not expected to receive those picks after Cunningham's move to Atlanta, as Falcons president Matt Ryan is considered the top football executive in the organization.

Cunningham, who was hired by the Bears and developed into a GM candidate, stated he believed the Bears should receive compensation based on his understanding of the rule. "I'm the General Manager. I was hired. I would think that they would get two third-round picks," Cunningham said at a recent press conference. Bears GM Ryan Poles called the situation "a little odd" and described the rule as "strange."
