Arizona School Athletics Placed on Probation Over Taunting

The Arizona Interscholastic Association has placed Coolidge High School's entire athletics department on probation for 365 days following allegations of taunting during a boys basketball playoff game.

Coolidge defeated Chinle 64-53 in a Class 3A quarterfinal matchup, but video footage of alleged taunting led to an investigation by the AIA. The penalties include a playoff ban for all teams, which Coolidge is currently appealing.

If the sanctions are upheld, the school would be disqualified from postseason play in all sports for one year, including forfeiting this Friday's state semifinal game against Snowflake. State legislator Myron Tsosie has commented on the incident, noting "unfortunate events" that occurred during the game.
