Rutgers Hires Drake's Joe Evans as Assistant DL Coach

Rutgers football has hired former Drake defensive line coach Joe Evans to serve as their new assistant defensive line coach.

Evans joins the Rutgers coaching staff after just one season as a Drake assistant, where he helped develop defensive linemen Jacob Auen, Nolan Korzeniowski, and Gene Blalock, who combined for 14 sacks last season.

The former Iowa defensive standout, who terrorized Rutgers with four sacks in a 2022 matchup, will now work under new defensive line coach Dennis Dottin-Carter. Evans had a successful college career at Iowa with 135 tackles, 35 tackles for loss, and 28 sacks before a brief stint on the Baltimore Ravens practice squad in 2024.
