Last-placed Wolverhampton pulled off a major upset by defeating third-place Aston Villa 2-0 on Friday night. The first goal came 15 minutes into the second half when Adam Armstrong provided a brilliant pass to João Gomes, who struck the ball from 16 meters, hitting the crossbar before finding the net.
Aston Villa had a chance to equalize with a shot saved on the line six minutes into overtime but couldn't find the equalizer. Instead, Wolverhampton countered to score a second goal, again through Gomes. Norwegian player David Møller Wolfe watched the entire match from the bench as his team celebrated a crucial victory.
