UMass men's hockey turned the lights off on UConn.

Literally.

It was tied 3-3 in overtime Saturday night, and the Huskies had a breakaway.

UMass, the hosts, had just failed to score, but the goal horn started going off. Then the lights started to flash like a goal celebration. And then the arena lights turned all the way off.

The game ended in a 3-3 tie. UMass won the shootout to earn an additional standings point.

That controversial appeared to be a 2-on-1 break for UConn, but the Huskies didn't get a chance to finish it off with a sudden-death, game-winning goal.

It was a crucial matchup between two ranked teams.

UConn is likely on the bubble to make the NCAA tournament, and a win in this clash would've been a great resume booster.

Instead, the Huskies couldn't see where they were going. The referees had no choice but to stop the game at that point, and there were no better chances to score before it went to a shootout.

There's no way to know why exactly this happened, but the end result is a brutal feeling for the Huskies.
